Chickens

Urban Agriculture

We have six egg-laying hens in our state-of-the-art, Solidworks designed chicken coop.  I created the design for our coop based on the living requirements for chickens in our climate, with an extra attentive eye to protecting them against potential urban predators.  I also created the build plan for the coop in order to make it easy for volunteers with little construction experience to follow along and contribute.  Over the course of several project weekends, the coop was fully constructed and installed into our backyard garden space.

The hens live a happy life and grow fat on our kitchen scraps that we bring in to supplement their feed.  In the first summer of our chicken coop, we collected over 300 eggs from these healthy ladies.
